to childhood fashion shows held weekly in my grandparents living room. My girlfriends and I would parade around in our latest "get-ups." My grandmother would tell us we looked like Grace Kelly or Coco Chanel and my eyes would sparkle just like the rhinestones that adorned the pearls and brooches we had piled on.
After the "show" when all the jewels were put away, I wondered if someday I might have the style and grace of my grandmother and the fashion icons of whom she spoke.
When I got married several years ago, I re-purposed some treasured costume jewelry (from my grandmother, of course) into spectacular hair combs that I wore at the base of my up-do beneath my veil. They were exquisite; understated elegance mixed with a little Hollywood glam.
The combs have become my most treasured wedding keepsake and the source of my inspiration to create this line of upcycled jewelry and wedding accessories.
I love the idea that vintage pieces can breathe new life when reinterpreted and refashioned for the modern world. Plus, the vintage components reduce the need for commercial manufacturing. Since the goods are re-used, they don't end up in our growing landfills.
